You ask, "Why are you Greek Lettered?" Let me explain:

Coming from the deserts of what is known as "Africa/Egypt" traversing the sands I had one mission in mind. "Bring knowledge to those who are without." When I crossed the sands I found a people who were in need of knowledge. Being a teacher and a builder, I brought the necessary tools in order to create a society, a brotherhood, a sisterhood, and a complete way of life. It is a known fact that I, the African/Egyptian traveler, am originally responsible for educating the Greeks in the ways of Math, Science, and Life. My influence is evident in the language, politics, entertainment, and education of the time.

I am compared to Paul, in the book of Acts, who preached to the Greeks of the "Eternal" light we call GOD. As the years passed I became a wanderer without a home. I was soon lost in the lands I came to educate. Because of the length of my travel I forgot many things, yet in place of what I lost I created new ideas and concepts. I took on the citizenship of those I came to educate with the intent that my sacrifice would help truth reach people who otherwise would not listen. Like Paul I, the traveler, am a temporary citizen. I possess a dual citizenship until the time that I find my way home. Knowing that my knowledge would not be accepted by all, my journey became tales shrouded in mystery and allusions.

Does this story sound familiar? A man, a woman, or a people who are foreign to the land in which they reside. They are citizens of the land in order to make it until the day that they can return home. They have traversed many struggles to this one point in time where they will have to bring "LIGHT" to those who walk in "DARKNESS". They are outsiders in a land that knows truth, but does not know how to interpret it correctly. They are "travelers" who have to take on citizenship in a place that is not of their birth right. Never forgetting where they came from, but recognizing that for the moment they must make due with what they have.

We, Black Greek Lettered Organizations, represent the African/Egyptian travelers; fraternities and sororities in America represent the Greek land in need of "LIGHT". We "travelers" must teach this land what it means to be fraternal, what it means to be brothers, and what it means to be sisters. We bring a way of life to Greek lettered organizations that previously did not exist.

1) We brought pride about individual heritage to Greek lettered organizations.
2) We brought stress on community service to Greek lettered organizations.
3) We brought stepping to Greek lettered organizations.
4) We brought the concept of visible Graduate Chapters to the Greek lettered organizations.

We brought love for the BLUE & WHITE, the BLACK & GOLD, the PINK & GREEN, the PURPLE & GOLD, the CRIMSON & CREAM, the BLUE & GOLD, and the BROWN & GOLD to Greek lettered organizations. We brought so much to the table and we never sold out in order to do it. Be warned that we have not lost our identity in the process. We are builders using pieces of known structures familiar in both our past and present in order to recreate our BLUE print of home.

You ask, "Why are you Greek Lettered?" I respond that I, like many others, am a "traveler" in the American fraternity system. My mission is to educate, uplift, and motivate using the ideals of my home land, Africa/Egypt, along with the positive elements of my current home, America. When my mission is complete I will return to the place of my origin; until then I am just a "traveler".
